Chumphon through the local’s lens: TakeMeTour’s review

Bridging Central and Southern Thailand ,Chumphon is the popular gateway to the heavenly Koh Tao, Koh Samui and Koh Pha Ngan on the Gulf of Thailand. However, the southern town is a trove of natural gems in its own right. From secluded islands, tranquil beach and unspoiled rainforest village, it’s no wonder Chumphon wins a special place in the heart of off-the-beaten-path travelers. Find local-recommended things to do in Chumphon here.

Thung Wua Laen Beach

A 30-minute ride from Chumphon city will take you to the tranquil and family-friendly Thung Wua Laen Beach. Although the sea is not the glitzy turquoise color like one you will find in Phuket, the white sandy and shallow water beach more than make up to it. Come here for a chillaxing afternoon and fresh seafood dinner, or spend a few days blissing out at one of the beachside bungalows.

Khao Dinsor

Literally Pencil Mountain, the steep hills reward adventurers with stunning panorama view of lush forest, jaw-dropping sunset and occasionally a flock of more than 26 types of migratory hawks from Siberia and Mongolia (September - November). The climb takes around two hours, but the path is well paved with stairs. Khao Dinsor also lets you spend a night in a tent among the quirky melody of nature and under a blanket of stars.

Pha Toh District

Pha Toh district is the real off-the-beaten-path destination even to most locals. Tucked deep in the southern inland of Chumphon, the lush rainforest area lets travelers float on bamboo rafts along its tropical canal, as well as dip in its collection of stunning waterfalls. Here, the local way of life and accommodations for travelers remain simple, and nature remains rich and luscious.

Koh Ngam Noi & Koh Ngam Yai
Koh Ngam Noi (Noi meaning small) and Koh Ngam Yai (Yai meaning big) are two stunning sister islands lying less than an hour away from Chumphon beach. On most days, the water is so clear you can roughly spot the various school of fish while still standing on your boat. Needless to say, the islands make a dreamy snorkeling spots. Dive enthusiasts also flock here to get up close and personal with the healthy coral reefs and whale sharks, the real bosses of Chumphon sea.
