Brisbane through our lens: TakeMeTour’s Review

Brisbane, the capital city of the Sunshine State of Queensland, has its charming vibe with 280 days of sun. Yes, this city is blessed with the perfect weather and warm temperature all year round! It’s not hard to imagine an easy, active and laid-back lifestyle the locals have here! With Brisbane's fantastic mixture of urban life, history, and street beaches, outdoor adventures are a must! Kayaking, climbing, swimming, and even visiting markets and museums have their special appeals in this lovely city. So be careful, you wouldn’t want to leave once you are here!

Feeling the urge to visit already? Here’s a list of 7 popular things we recommend to do in Brisbane:

1. Experience the Brisbane River

As a river city, Brisbane River is the most significant part of Brisbane. Hop on the sightseeing cruises, such as the free City Hopper, or the City Cat, to enjoy the spectacular views of the river. You will be able to view the Story Bridge and the Victory Bridge, the two famous bridges in Brisbane with colourful lights that glow at night like a gem. Don’t forget about the Wheel of Brisbane at South Brisbane if you are considering to appreciate the city with a 360-degree view.

2. Get active in Brisbane like the locals

The Brissie active lifestyle is massive. You can easily tell how much the locals love sports when you walk down the streets. Running and cycling along the river are the best ways to travel around and experience the cultures here. If you like climbing, the Kangaroo Point Cliff can also challenge you as you scale the cliff overlooking the Brisbane River and city! The Streets Beach in South Bank is also the icon and a must-visit in this Sunshine State. You can enjoy a relaxing swim and picnic at the beach, plus get a nice tan!

3. Hipster hotspots

As a ‘big country town’, it’s official that Brisbane is the ‘hippest city’ in Australia! In WestEnd and Paddington - the two biggest hippy towns - you can experience the rustic charm by exploring the unique boutiques and stylish cafes around. If you also love vintage and pre-loved goods, make sure you visit the Paddington Antique Centre. Fancy thrift shopping? Keep an eye on the Sunday Suitcase Rummage in City Square. You won’t go home empty-handed!

4. Explore the natural beauty

Overwhelmed by the city? It’s time to escape to the secret gardens here. The City Botanic Gardens and the Roma Street Parkland will give you a relaxing resting spot. You can also visit Mt.Coot-tha which gives you the best panoramic views over the Brisbane central business district, or what locals like to call the CBD. Brisbane also has amazing nature spots just a few hours away outside the city. Make sure to trek through Springbrook National Park, which is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia's World Heritage Area. Another option would be having an easy hike at Lamington National Park, which is also part of the famous hinterland in Queensland.

5. Get up-close to Brisbane’s unique wildlife

Australia is renowned for its ancient and well-preserved wildlife, and you can get-up close with your favourite Australian animals in the Australia Zoo! The zoo has more than 1200 amazing animals waiting for you. Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is also a must-go in Brisbane. Here, you can cuddle the adorable koalas and feed the gorgeous kangaroos. If you love the sea, then dolphin feeding in Moreton Island is the perfect fit for you!

6. Eat your way around Brisbane

Talking about food, you must not miss out on the Eat Street Northshore that's opened every weekend! Food, bars, music, movies...the area provides the best entertainment you need for a good night and it has the best selection of food across the globe. It’s like Disneyland but with food! You can also check out the Market Square in Sunnybank. You will be surprised by the comprehensive menus they have for Asian food! Visiting the weekend Farmer's Markets in WestEnd and Milton is another must-do to get some fresh ingredients.

7. Explore Brisbane's nightlife

Want to be a night owl and party until dawn? The Fortitude Valley is your destination. It’s packed with popular night clubs and bars for you to dance the night away! There are also some funky and unique bars at Eagle Street Pier where you can enjoy cocktails with the river night view next to you. If you prefer a chill and creative night out, you would love a paint & sip session at Cork & Chroma. You can also visit the Brisbane Powerhouse in New Farm, which has a comedy knockoff every Sunday night. Make sure you don’t miss out on the night sky of Brisbane by taking a tour through the galaxy in the Planetarium’s Cosmic Skydome. You will be stunned by how beautiful our universe is!
