Phanom Rung Historical Park or Prasat Hin Phanom Rung is located in Buriram province in the Northeast of Thailand. It is one of the most impressive and significant Khmer-style temples in Thailand. It was constructed in the Khmer style between the 10th – 13th centuries. If you are one who is passionate about cultural tourism and ancient architecture, this is an amazing destination for you!

The best option to get there is probably by bus directly to Nang Rong or Prakhon Chai from Bangkok Mochit Bus Terminal. The journey from Bangkok usually takes around 5 hours. After reaching Nang Rong Bus Station or Prakhon Chai Transport Station, you can find a local taxi or Tuk Tuk to get to Phanom Rung Historical Park. Both locations are only about 30 minutes away from the historical park.

Prasat Hin Phanom Rung is well-known as it was constructed from pink sandstone and located at the peak of the Phanom Rung Mountain. The name “Phanom Rung” is adapted from the Khmer word “Wanang Rung”, which means “vast mountain”. There is a natural phenomenon of sunrise and sunset through its 15 doorways which occurs four times in a year. However, you’ll need to check the date and time before planning to witness this phenomenon, since it may change every year.

Moreover, Prasat Hin Phanom Rung has been submitted to UNESCO for consideration as a future World Heritage Site. The historical park is open daily from 06.00 -18.00 hrs. and the entrance fee is 200 baht for foreigners.
