It is well-known that Chiang Mai is a city full of temples and nature. If you are looking for a place where you can combine together the temple and nature tours in the same place, Doi Suthep is your best destination!

Doi Suthep is located in Doi Suthep – Pui National Park, Chiang Mai province. Doi means mountain in Northern Thai. It is about 15 km. from Chiang Mai city center. When you enter, you can see the Huay Kaew Waterfall which is near the entrance of the park. It is not a bad idea if you want to take some relaxation with a picnic at this beautiful waterfall. Next to the waterfall, you will find the Bhubhing Palace, a vacation home for the Thai Royal Family. The palace is open to the public, except when the Royal Family is in residence.

Moreover, there is the famous temple, Wat Phra That Doi Suthep on the top of the mountain. The temple is wonderful and impressive with the Lanna culture. The original gold plated chedi (pagoda) is the most sacred area of the temple grounds. You can go upstairs by taking a cable car which runs from 06.00 a.m. until 18.00 p.m. The fee is 50 THB for the foreigners. Another choice, reach via a 306-step staircase flanked by Nagas (Water Serpents). Many Thais and foreigners come to experience the special magic of this holy place. It is a good option if you want to enjoy the natural vibes and fresh atmosphere.

The popular way to get to Doi Suthep is take the local “red car” (red Songthaew pickup trucks with two rows of seats at the back) from Chiang Mai zoo. The cost is 40 THB each way and the drivers wait for 10 passengers before leaving. Planning a day trip to visit Doi Suthep is worth your time so, don’t rush your visit!
