About Me

Hello! My Thai nickname is Duan, but you can call me Dee Dy! I am from Sankampang in Chiang Mai, and I was born in Chiang Mai! I graduated from Payap University, majored in Human Resources Management. I speak 3 languages, which are English, Thai and a little bit of French! I own my own shop, which sells costumes for women! My hobby is that I really like to learn many new things, and right now I am still learning many things in life! My preferred way of receiving news from TakeMeTour would be through my e-mail and my Facebook inbox. I have my own car, which is the Toyata Vios, which is a 5 seater car, but I can also find a car which seats more than 5 people. What makes me different from others is that I think I am a happy person, have a positive outlook on life, and I'm always funny and joyful! Please, don't hesitate to join me on my trips! I am waiting for you!

Chiang Mai: Care for Elephants at Ethical Sanctuary

★★★★★★★★★★

3.0

Nightmare experience. This was unfortunately not an ethical sanctuary at all. I was mislead by the name. While I was there, I saw the caretaker tug and play around with the elephant’s tail to get them to move to one place, or hit them with grass. No one was monitoring this, as if I was acceptable or typical behavior. I asked Dee, the tour guide, why the elephants were screaming and why the caretakers were hitting and she denied that they were. She then proceeded to speak to them in Thai and the hitting suddenly stopped. If that occurred during our visits, I'd hate to think what occurs when we aren't there!!

The elephants look very miserable. Every time they tried to wander on their own the caretakers would yell at them and extort them to come back for the tourists. It was not a natural experience at all. The elephants were often prompted to do tricks with us. There are two babies in this sanctuary, at least two females and only one male. One of the females was pregnant again while their offspring is still just a baby... I can imagine that was forced for profit and I can't imagine how painful it must be for the female. I would not recommend this place at all. I feel horrid that my money went towards this unethical place.
